Get your walking shoes on and make sure
the pedometer's working!
The Psychiatry Research Trust plans
to put together a team of a minimum of 10 people for the London
10K (6 miles) walk on Saturday, 17th September 2005. As part
of your participation in the team, we will pay for your registration
(£9 per adult and £5.00 per child) and simply ask that you
raise as much sponsorship money as you can for donation to
the PRT.
Alternatively, you can enter as an individual walker (registration
£10.00/£6.00 per adult/child) or, as an adult, you may choose
to join in one of the interconnecting walks along the John
O'Groats - Lands End route which, apart from the UK main land,
also covers Ireland and the Irish Republic.
For further information, including a registration form, please
contact Lesley Pease at the Psychiatry Research Trust on l.pease@iop.kcl.ac.uk
or call into the PRT office which is located opposite the
main IoP reception desk.
An extract about the Great Walk is given below and full information
is also available on www.greatwalk.org
"In April 2005
Karen Churches will set off on a marathon four month trek
from John O'Groats, through Ireland and on to Land's End leading
the Kellogg's Corn Flakes Great Walk 2005. Karen will be walking
on average 32km per day, six days per week in an effort to
encourage the nation to step out and make a difference not
only to their own health but also to hundreds of charities
and good causes that will benefit from the sponsorship money
they raise.
Between April and September,
children and adults of all ages and abilities are invited
to join Karen on one of the many 10km sponsored walks that
will be taking place in towns and cities along her route and
raise money for a registered charity, community or school
project of their choice. Whilst adults in search of a greater
challenge are also invited to join her on the longer, interconnecting
walks which link up the 10km events."
