Research and Development Office

The R&D Office provides support to researchers in both the Institute of Psychiatry and the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM). It is committed to ensuring that all research being undertaken is of high scientific quality and of a high ethical standard.

The R&D Office has the following functions: 

  • management of R&D activities within the Trust and the Institute including the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) for Mental Health
  • co-ordination of the Research Governance functions across the Institute and Trust
  • co-ordination of the R&D portfolio and responsibility for reporting to the Department of Health and the Comprehensive Local Research Network (CLRN)
  • processing of R&D approval for all research taking place within SLaM (through IRAS and CSP)
  • provision of advice to staff about research grant and training opportunities including advice on local processing routes
  • management of submissions to NIHR grant schemes via SLaM
  • processing of Research Passports / Honorary Research Contracts for SLaM
  • co-ordination of the Institute’s preparations for Research Assessment Exercises / Research Excellence Framework
  • collection of key management information on research activity and peer-reviewed publications for external reporting

RESEARCH at the Institute of Psychiatry
