Entry Requirements

  • The normal minimum entry requirement for Home students is an upper second class honours degree in a biological discipline, a medical degree (MBBS), or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard. Applicants with a non-biological degree or with a lower class may be considered on an individual basis. Equivalent degree grades for students from other countries are here.
  • candidates must possess a high degree of competence in English in order to understand lectures. Proof of English language competence will be required for students whose first language is not English, e.g. a minimum IELTS overall score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in all four skills or a minimum TOEFL iBT score of 100 overall with a minimum of 25 in Writing and a minimum of 23 each of the other skills.


Intercalated MSc.
The programme is suitable for medical students who have completed their preclinical studies (i.e., usually at the end of their 4th year) and who are predicted to successfully complete their preclinical finals at the first attempt.  The students must also be able to suspend their medical studies for the 12 months duration of the Master's programme.
