In September 2009 the programme structure was changed to 3 compulsory Fundamental Neuroscience modules and a choice of one specialised module selected from a number of options.

Before the introduction of fundamental and optional modules in September 2009, the taught part of the programme was divided into 4 compulsory modules, each covering a number of different subject areas. Each module was assessed by a coursework essay and a written examination that covered the subject areas taught within that modeule. Students were required to answer 4 questions for each paper

Before modularisation in September 2005, the taught part of the programme was divided into 3 modules, each covering different subject areas. The taught content was examined in three written examinations and each examination paper covered all subject areas. For Papers 1 and 2, students were required to answer 5 questions from each paper (short answers) and to answer 2 questions from paper 3 (long answers)
