biography

I am an MRC Training Fellow in General Hospital Psychiatry at the Instiute of Psychiatry and Specialist Registrar in Adult and Old Age Liaison Psychiatry at the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust.

My research interests are in the area between physical and mental health specifically the relationship between mental health measures and mortality, the properties of psychometrics, palliative care psychiatry, and research methodology.

I organise the Institute of Psychiatry Journal Club and the General Hospital Psychiatry Departmental Seminars. I teach on the MRCPsych course for junior psychiatrists, on the Master’s in Palliative Care and run a series of half-day courses in how to use the statistical package Stata. I also teach medical students about general hospital psychiatry and critical appraisal.

My PhD is about trait anxiety and fatal injury, testing the hypothesis that a bit of extra trait anxiety protects people from fatal injury by impeding reckless acts in a total of five large datasets from the UK and abroad. My supervisors are Professor Matthew Hotopf and Professor Martin Prince.

I have signed the ’No Free Lunch Pledge’. This means I do not see drug reps, so if you are a drug rep there is no point in contacting me.
