About the Institute of Psychiatry website
Web accessibility
This site meets the specifications of the latest web standards (XHTML 1.0) and we make every effort to ensure that the website can be viewed by all.
The design of the site is simple and logical in nature, with a left hand menu providing links to popular destinations within the Institute of Psychiatry web site.
Some important features of the new layout and design include:
- Minimal use of layout tables - while modern web techniques promote the use of no layout tables, our feeling was the penalty for users with old web browsers would be too great, the compromise is thus the use of a single layout table which degrades gracefully when tables are are linearised or displayed in a simple browser such as Lynx
- Minimal use of images (mainly for logo) - when images are used, there is always an alternative text equivalent
- Use of style sheets to separate content from display
- Extensive use of lists where appropriate
We are constantly trying to improve the accessibility and usabilty of this site.
